Though mesothelioma is a very rare cancer among general population, the incidence is very high among people exposed to asbestos on a regular basis. Asbestos is used for roof shingles, flooring, brakes, cement, insulation, and in construction. The people employed with these kinds of work should use protective facial mask while exposing themselves to asbestos. But with many employers, the safety of employees is the last issue to be dealt with. The employees intentionally or unintentionally are exposed to the bad effects of asbestos. This however does not affect them instantly. It takes 3 to 4 decades to develop into malignant mesothelioma.

There are some other risk factors that add to the risk of mesothelioma. Zeolite, asbestos like mineral is also postulated to cause mesothelioma. But it is a rare cause as compared to asbestos exposure. The asbestos particles are very tiny that can be inhaled or swallowed. These particles may settle in lungs or stomach and irritation begins. This may eventually lead to the dreaded cancer.

Many laws have been promoted in different countries to prevent this dangerous occupational hazard. Definitely, minimal safety measures can avoid these lung cancer symptoms and save the patient and his relatives from misery.
