ADHD- Effects on an Individual’s Life

3-5 percent of children around the world and that too especially in United States of America suffer from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It’s a childhood disorder generally, but is found in some adults as well. The  recent medical surveys done over the past few year have depicted that 30-50 per cent of children with ADHD disorder  grows up with it and  the symptoms are shown later in the life.

There are very harmful effects of this attention deficit hyperactivity disorder on the personality of the individual and it my result into the complete exhaustion of mental and physical energy levels.

The adverse effects that ADHD disorder posed on an individual suffering from it can be summed up as:

  • Highly impulsive attitude, distraction, and hyperactivity of any kind can result in lack of concentration and memory failure in schools, home and at games as well.
  • Chances of accidents increases and this can be poisoning, drowning, jumping from height, vehicle collision, fractures and bleeding
  • Mood and behavioral fluctuations, anxiety disorders, and depression
  • Special care has to be taken of children with ADHD disorder and for this same purpose parents and the family members of the patient are provided with special educational and training programs to handle and deal with the situation of their child. The exact causes of ADHD are still not known to medical science however it has been suggested that ADHD occurs due to nutritional and genetic imbalance

Neurotransmitter tests for ADHD patient has been recommended since it has been found that patients lacks the production of certain essential neurotransmitters including dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine.
