One of the most dreaded diseases that a child could suffer is Cerebral Palsy. The effects are such that it prevents the child’s natural growth to a normal human being.

What is Cerebral Palsy? Cerebral Palsy is a disease that shows its signs during the early years of a child’s life. A range of disorders arise in the physique of the child that impairs the control of movement. The symptoms do not show during the birth of the child and till the child attains the age of 18 months. Most of the times the symptoms are barely visible and it becomes difficult to diagnose CP.

A disease like Cerebral Palsy could be caused in various ways. Toxicity to the fetal brain of cytokines, low birth weight, toxins, lead poisoning, shaken baby syndrome, encephalitis or meningitis could each be one of the causes of Cerebral Palsy. Recent researches have also demonstrated that intrapartum asphyxia which was considered to be prime cause of CP is not so and less than 10% of cases of Cerebral Palsy have been caused by it.

Since the medical scientists have not been able till date to find out what causes Cerebral Palsy, physicians try to prevent the growth of the disease using a series of therapies. As there is no cure for CP, these divergent therapies become indispensable for the well being of the child so that he or she can live a near normal life. Cerebral Palsy treatments are ordinarily symptomatic and concentrate on developing motor skills of the person as much as possible. This ensures that the affected person lives a near normal life though not fully normal.

Your child has been growing up well till the 18th or 20th month after birth. There were no symptoms of any mental or physical deficiency. The growth was normal.  However, thereafter something went wrong and symptoms of unusualness were showing in the behavior of the child. After a prolonged check up running quite a few days, the treating physician arrives at the conclusion that your child is affected with Cerebral Palsy.

If CP is a disease, then why it took so long for the treating physician to diagnose the same? It is because of the fact that till date has not been able to come up with a regular cerebral set Palsy diagnosis that could provide them with immediate information on the state of the disease as well as the patient. It is well known to all that CP is not curable. The only possible treatment is providing some therapies and if necessary surgical operation to do away with the ill effects of the CP.

Despite all the research, analysis and experiments made in this regard, medical scientists are still failing to explain the causes of Cerebral Palsy. If you ask what is Cerebral Palsy then most probably you will get the answer that it is yet to be defined. Till date over 80% of the reasons of Cerebral Palsy remains undiscovered and the strangest thing of all is that even in cases where there are all reasons for a child being attacked with CP, he or she may not be attacked at all.

It is rightly said that Cerebral Palsy is a physician’s dilemma.

Though medical science has progressed by leaps and bounds over the years there are still a few diseases that have eluded the learned grasp of the scientists. One such disease is Cerebral Palsy as the scientists and physicians are yet to find out the reasons why children at a particular age are affected by CP.

Scientists have found out that CP is not curable like a few other diseases like HIV AIDS and Cancer. However, with a little care and extra efforts, you can be able to prevent most of the evil affects of CP. The sooner the detection of existence of CP, the earlier will be the possibility of better treatment for overcoming developmental disabilities and also learning new methods to counter the problem.  A lot therefore depends on cerebral set Palsy diagnosis  since a proper diagnosis is the key to appropriate and timely treatment.

Since as a treating physician you do not know what exactly causes CP, you may apply a series of therapies including physical, occupational, and speech therapies.  Conversely in conducting Cerebral Palsy treatments you may also use pharmaceutical drugs to ease pains and muscle traumas.

The basic objective in treating a patient suffering from Cerebral Palsy is to see that he is able to develop the maximum number of possible motor movements or how to compensate their absence so as to gear up his or her personal developments.

You as well as your treating physician are both quite convinced that Cerebral Palsy is not curable and could only be prevented with some outside treatments that are both costly and time consuming. It might not have occurred to you in your despair that your child may not be suffering from CP at all. So all the expensive Cerebral Palsy treatments you are providing for your child might not be necessary at all.

Children who suffer from some type of disabilities or other have many problems that are common to them. Most prominent among them is the problem of effective communication with family members and outside world. Some of these disabilities might closely resemble with Cerebral Palsy and this may lead you to believe that your child is suffering from the dreaded disease, while in reality he or she is not.  Children, who have spinal cord dysfunction, face such problems like non-sensitivity of skin but it is not Cerebral Palsy.

Moreover the severity of the problems caused by such injuries may vary from time to time. The disorders that are primarily of muscles, nerves, and bones may not be considered as Cerebral Palsy. It is true that few will able to exactly explain what is Cerebral Palsy but there are certain symptoms that definitely point towards existence of CP and these symptoms are not available in diseases that resembles CP but looks like CP.
