If you follow natural health trends, you’ve undoubtedly come across colon cleansing products. There are hundreds of products on the market, and it can be difficult figuring out which ones are the safest, most effective and the best for you.

In general, colon cleansers are either herbal or oxygen-based. What does that mean, and how do the two products differ?

Herbal Colon Cleanse

The majority of products on the market are herbal. They work similarly to drug-based enemas and laxatives in that they force the body to produce bowel movements by stimulating the muscles that trigger a movement.

Many herbal colon cleansing products may contain cascara sagrada, psyllium, or senna. These substances are known to cause allergic reactions as well as irritate intestinal bacteria, which can lead to side effects such as vomiting, abdominal cramping, and diarrhea.

While some herbal colon cleansers contain minerals, vitamins, fiber, and probiotics to fight off side effects, long-term use is not recommended, as it can affect the body’s ability to effectively absorb essential minerals and vitamins.

Oxygen Colon Cleanse

Oxygen-based products, on the other hand, liquefy hardened fecal matter, causing bowel elimination to vary from clear water to loose stools. The primary ingredients in quality oxygen-based cleansers are ozonated magnesium compounds such as magnesium oxide. The magnesium compounds actually stabilize the monatomic oxygen (O1) which reacts and neutralizes toxic compaction helping to break down accumulated waste matter. In this way, oxygen products promote natural elimination rather than forcing bowel movements.

These products can also aid the entire digestive system, including the small intestines, in flushing out accumulated toxins and hardened waste. Oxygen cleansers may also assist in flushing out harmful organisms, as these unwanted creatures have a hard time surviving in an oxygen cleansed environment. Additionally, oxygen cleanses encourage the growth of beneficial bacteria.

Finally, oxygen-based colon cleansers are totally safe for long-term use and have been proven effective in clinical trials as well as published in international medical journals.

The Verdict

After strenuous research and taking all of the above information into consideration, it seems as though an oxygen-based product is preferable to an herbal product. The only real downside to oxygen cleansers is that they cause runny stools by turning the hard unwanted waste into a liquid for easy elimination. Oxygen cleansers are gentler and also safer, as they are fine for long-term use and don’t cause unwanted side effects or discomfort. Additionally, oxygen-based products cause healthy bacteria to thrive, whereas herbal cleansers prove to be harmful to these necessary bacteria.

This colon cleansing fanatic will be sure to stick with oxygen-based colon cleansing products from here on out.
