Do you know how to stay healthy when sitting in an office chair eight or more hour a day, attending online classes or working your day job? Many people can relate to this question, yet it is also a known fact that sitting most hours of the day can lead to significant health problems. A simple Google search for “tight muscles” returns over 4 million results. An old African proverb says, “Never do anything standing that you can do sitting, or anything sitting that you can do lying down.”
Today I’ll focus on the broad-scope strategies (meta-issues), leaving the particulars of how you implement them into your life to you. If you are in online schools or an office job where you are required to sit for multiple hours each day, there are many exercises and ways of living that you can incorporate into your life routine that will lead to a healthier outlook for your future, and possibly a better life overall for you.
Follow the three suggestions below, and I will guarantee that you will feel better within two weeks. Remember, no instant fix is a permanent fix.
Stretch – Sitting too long can cause major discomfort. Your muscles, especially your iliopsoas (commonly called the psoas), which runs from your ribs down through your pelvis and into the back of your legs, can become shortened and tight, leading to back pain and lack of blood flow to necessary areas of your body. Beyond standing up at least once an hour and taking a turn around the office, or even stretching in the bathroom, you can stretch at your desk as well. Make sure you sit with your back straight and your feet flat on the floor. If you notice your legs naturally wanting to cross underneath of you, your iliopsoas muscle is probably already tight. I recommend finding an ottoman or something comparable to put your feet on from time to time. I use an unused filing cabinet, which puts my feet slightly above my hips and stretches my hamstrings, which tighten when your iliopsoas tightens. If your desk has legs, I find that it helps to put your foot on the leg and lean forward, feeling the stretch from your knee to your hip.
Breathe – When you slouch in your chair, your diaphragm becomes constricted, which leads to breathing from high in your chest instead of deep in your core. As you focus on your breathing, be aware of your body, especially areas where it does not relax easily with your increased breathing. Increased oxygen should lead to increased blood flow, which in turn leads to increased flexibility in your muscles. If certain muscles remain tight, pay attention to this and use the tools available, such as a focused Google Search or WebMD to start, and find stretches for these specific muscles that you can do at home, when lying down becomes possible.
Focus and relax – Medical studies have shown that increased stress in your personal and work lives can have adverse affects on your overall physical health, not just your mental well-being. Learn to let the little annoyances of life pass you by. Focus on the large issues in front of you and let unnecessary details slide past. Your back, brain, and those close to you will all be thankful.
Health is a Process
Lasting health is a way of life and cannot be gained with a quick fix. Engage the whole of your being into your health regiment, taking into account your body, mind, and surroundings. Let each influence you so that your life is healthier and happier for years to come.

Candida yeast infection is a common condition affecting many people worldwide. In fact, a relatively recent federal report suggests that up to 75 percent of all women will get at least one vaginal yeast infection in their lifetime.
The purpose of this article is to uncover the health dangers associated with Candida infection and explore several possible ways to treat it.
What Is Candida Infection?
In general, Candida infection is a proliferation of a yeast like organism called Candida albicans in the intestines. To put this into perspective, our gut is home to a large community of live organisms which play an essential part in a range of activities related to our health – some beneficial, some potentially harmful. And while it’s crucial for us to live with these bacterial bugs in harmony, some factors can trigger things to get out of control and Candida infection can occur.
The Candida albicans will then rapidly multiply, penetrate the intestinal linings and overwhelm the „friendly“ bacteria in your colon. Also, it will produce a vast amount of toxic by-products such as acetaldehyde. The result is a multitude of symptoms such as chronic fatigue, problems with digestion (diarrhea or constipation, bloating), adult onset allergies, vaginal/penile yeast infections, frequent headaches and rashes.
What Causes Candida Infection?
When there are fewer beneficial organisms (a.k.a. probiotics) like Lactobacillus acidophilus in your gut, Candida albicans can grow out of control and cause Candida infection. Under what circumstances might that happen? There are several factors that may promote the imbalance between good and bad bacteria. For example antibiotic overuse, stress, hormonal imbalances, weakened immune system or certain types of birth control pills.
As you can see, there are many causes of Candida infection that may ultimately result in compromised intestinal health and an out-of-control growth of the Candida cells in the intestines
3 Ways to Cure Candida Infection
Dealing with Candida yeast infection is not always easy. Fortunately, there are certain ways which can significantly help you overcome this condition.
- Probiotics are perhaps the most common way how people around the world cure their Candida symptoms. Probiotic supplements contain selected strains of “friendly“ bacteria that help to keep pathogens like Candida albicans under control. On top of that, probiotics can also boost your immunity and digestion. These products are definitely something you may want to consider when struggling with Candida overgrowth
- Healthy diet – Did you know that Candida albicans thrives on sugar? Diets high in processed foods and sugar create a breeding ground for the proliferation of the Candida yeast and that’s why it’s important to eat more healthy. That means cutting out wrong food choices altogether and replacing them with nutritious alternatives.
- Antifungals – health care experts may recommend taking an antifungal as a part of your Candida cleanse. Antifungals directly inhibit the fungi such as Candida to restore balance in the intestinal tract. Aside from well known prescription medications like Diflucan or Nystatin, there is also a variety of promising natural supplements to choose from, including caprylic acid, oil of oregano or garlic.
As debilitating as Candida infection can be, take heart because it is very treatable. Consult your doctor to get more information about this condition.
